Between the 21st and 23rd of May, São Paulo will host the first fair in Latin America dedicated exclusively to “flying cars”, as electric vertical take-off and landing vehicles, eVTOLs, are popularly known. Expo eVTOL 2024 is organized by MundoGEO, recently acquired by the Italian Exhibition Group (IEG), and will bring together exhibitors from this sector at Expo Center Norte – Yellow Pavilion, including the presence of real and operational eVTOLs. The event will also feature a forum with more than 30 speakers from Brazil and the world to discuss the current situation and the next flights of 'flying cars'.
According to experts, eVTOLs should revolutionize Urban Air Mobility, opening up several business possibilities and benefits for society, such as integration with other modes in cities, lower prices than helicopter flights and a contribution to reducing noise and of greenhouse gas emissions. These reasons led large companies to embark on this market, such as traditional aircraft manufacturers Embraer, Airbus and Boeing, as well as startups that were created exclusively for the development of these aircraft.
The Chinese company EHang, for example, was created for this purpose, to promote the air mobility market with autonomous eVTOLs. The company has already had the EH216-S aircraft certified in China and is now in Brazil in the certification process. This model for two people will be on display at Expo eVTOL 2024 through Gohobby, the brand's representative in Brazil.
Among the exhibitors there is also the Brazilian Vertical Connect, which is developing “flying cars” not only for enger transport, but for other applications, such as firefighting, logistics and emergency. The company from Ceará will take a mock-up of the eVTOL. Brazilian company Moya Aero will take its eVTOL to the event. The model aimed at cargo transport and mapping is already carrying out test flights and will be at Expo Center Norte to be enjoyed by visitors.
In addition to the fair, Expo eVTOL 2024 will host the 2nd eVTOL Forum – Advanced Air Mobility and Innovative Aircraft, with an extensive program of debates and lectures over two days. So far, 34 speakers have been confirmed, including representatives from Eve Air Mobility, a company created by Embraer, which recently presented the first images of its prototype. The aircraft is expected to fly later this year and enter service in 2026.
The forum's program includes topics such as regulation, air traffic management, vertiports, energy, operations, market, technology, mobility, environment, among others. And to talk about these issues, representatives of large Brazilian and global companies were selected, as well as aeronautical institutions and authorities. This list includes, for example, Boeing, Lilium, Vertical Aerospace, Azul, Gol, Avantto, PAX Aeroportos, Skyports, UrbanV, Akaer, Instituto Tecnológico de Aeronáutica (ITA), Universidade Mackenzie, SMG Consulting, OAB-SP, Agência Nacional de Civil Aviation (ANAC), Department of Airspace Control (DECEA), among other organizations.
The forum will have simultaneous translation into Portuguese, English and Spanish. Simultaneously with Expo eVTOL 2024, three other events with great synergy are taking place in the same location: MundoGEO Connect, on reality capture technologies; DroneShow Robotics, about drones; and the SpaceBR Show, about the space market.
