The Eurodrone program has successfully carried out the Preliminary Design Review (PDR). Led by Airbus Defense and Space as prime contractor, this important program milestone was completed with OCCAR and representatives from the four customer countries (, , Italy and Spain) in the presence of the three main subcontractors (MSC), Airbus Defense and Space Spain , Dassault Aviation and Leonardo.
The PDR proves that the initial aircraft design has consistently matured, paving the way to proceed with detailed design. It is the result of different technical evaluations and evaluations carried out, such as wind tunnel tests to confirm the aerodynamic configuration of the Eurodrone, the overall design to ensure the demonstration of operational capability and the validation of a fully representative Digital Twin. From the beginning, the Eurodrone program has benefited from both design philosophies – physical and digital.
ed and based on the knowledge already acquired, the Eurodrone program enters a new phase to achieve the Critical Design Review (CDR), which will represent the final stage and closure of the architecture and system design.
“Conducting the preliminary design review for the development of the Eurodrone represents an important step forward for this important European defense program,” said Jean-Brice Dumont, Head of Air Power at Airbus Defense and Space. “This shows a true t effort and collaborative spirit from all industrial partners and the customer community to ensure European sovereignty and independence in this critical segment of long-endurance unmanned ISTAR capability.”
Equipped with cutting-edge innovative technology and designed to become one of the main pillars of any future combat air system, the Eurodrone will be an indispensable capability to facilitate the prevention of international conflicts and crisis management, guaranteeing operational superiority to nations, especially in the context of Intelligence, Surveillance, Target Acquisition and Reconnaissance (ISTAR) missions
