With representation from the Association of Flight Attendants Master Executive Council (MEC) (AFA-CWA), Alaska Airlines and its flight attendants have entered into a tentative agreement, which will result in an average 32% increase in pay.
However, the Alaska Airlines MEC highlighted that the final wording of the new provisional agreement was still being finalized, with voting on the new contract expected to begin on July 24, 2024 and close on August 14. Even so, the union released a summary of the new agreement, which includes the updated pay scale.
Summing up the new agreement, MEC announced that the negotiating team was pleased to present the innovative agreement, the result of 20 months of negotiations with Alaska Airlines. With the new tentative agreement, Alaska Airlines AFA-represented crew became the first flight attendants to guarantee boarding payments in a legally binding contract.
Additionally, the MEC highlighted that the salary scale for flight attendants would increase by an average of 32%. For example, under the previous agreement, first-year flight attendants were paid $24,95 per hour, a rate that would now increase to $32. Meanwhile, flight attendants who have worked at the airline for eight years were paid $42,99 per hour, a rate that would rise to $54,25 under the new deal.
Finally, the salary scale reaches a maximum of 16 years. Previously, veteran flight attendants were paid $60,31 per hour, an amount that would increase to $74, remaining the same for years 14, 15 and 16. Additionally, the changes will include 3% pay increases on August 15, 2025 and the same day a year later, resulting in flight attendants in years 14 to 16 earning up to $78,51 per hour as of the latest date.
