Data on Helicopter Accidents in Brazil
According to Sipaer, an agency belonging to CENIPA – Center for Investigation and Prevention of Aeronautical Accidents, there has been a reduction in the number of accidents and fatalities involving helicopters since 2018. On average over the last 5 years, for example, the number of helicopter accidents in the country fell from 88 occurrences between 2014 and 2018 to 79 between 2019 and 2023.
Representing helicopter pilots in Brazil, ABRAPHE has increasingly become a national and international reference in the dissemination of good practices and in encouraging a culture of safety among pilots. In this sense, it continues to defend helicopter aviation, fulfilling its role of accessibility, reaching points inaccessible by other means, connecting people to places, providing information, providing services, rescuing people and saving lives safely.
The most recent survey by the entity indicates that the country's helicopter fleet consists of 1.315 aircraft, the majority of which are helicopters with one turbine engine/H1T; followed by helicopters with one piston engine/H1P and helicopters with two turbine engines/H2T. São Paulo is the state with the largest number of ed helicopters, followed by Rio de Janeiro and the state of Minas Gerais. There are more than 4.500 helicopter operations in the country and the city of São Paulo is among those with the largest number of helicopter operations in the world, with approximately 1.300 landings and takeoffs/day. Overall, there are more than 25 thousand direct jobs generated by helicopter aviation in Brazil.
ABRAPHE believes and focuses on the dissemination of information and knowledge directed as potential agents in accident prevention, which it believes is bringing positive results for the safety of the sector.
