The program Solidarity Plane of LATAM has just transported three tons of basic food baskets to Rio de Janeiro free of charge for victims of heavy rains in the capital of Rio de Janeiro. In total, 200 baskets were shipped from São Paulo/Congonhas to Santos Dumont airport in the cargo compartments of LATAM aircraft in partnership with the non-profit organization G10 Favelas.
Second Lígia Sato, head of Sustainability at LATAM Brazil, “This transport for victims of the rains in Rio de Janeiro only reinforces the commitment of the LATAM Solidarity Plane to quickly serve the people who need it most in emergency situations.”
For 11 years, LATAM's Solidarity Plane has made all its logistical experience and connectivity available to South America for the free transport of people, animals and cargo in health emergencies, the environment and disasters. Furthermore, in January the LATAM program transported 86 boxes of dehydrated meals from Porto Alegre to Santos Dumont and Galeão airports. The free transport was carried out in partnership with Movimento UniãoBR to victims of the rains in the capital of Rio de Janeiro.
LATAM and G10 favelas
Since 2023, LATAM has been ing the G10 Favelas. Named as a group of social impact leaders and entrepreneurs from the largest favelas in Brazil, the non-profit organization returns donations into inputs and basic food baskets for communities spread across the country.
“LATAM has been an important partner of G10 Favelas, providing essential for our humanitarian actions throughout Brazil, allowing us to quickly meet the needs of families in situations of social vulnerability”, Said Gilson Rodrigues, national president of G10 Favelas.
LATAM and G10 Favelas worked together in 2023 to transport nine tons of humanitarian aid to victims of the heavy rains that hit the State of Pernambuco. In this sense, at the end of the year, LATAM's Solidarity Plane also transported 39 tons of food collected by G10 Favelas for free to vulnerable populations in Minas Gerais, Pernambuco and the Federal District.
Likewise, in January this year, two hundred girls from public schools on Ilha do Marajó (PA) who suffer from menstrual poverty received more than 200 intimate hygiene kits with products collected by the organization and transported free of charge by LATAM.
LATAM Solidarity Plane
With 11 years of existence, LATAM's Solidarity Plane program has already benefited more than 140 million people in Brazil with the free transport of more than 921 tons of cargo, 4,6 animals and 282 million vaccines against Covid-19 to all Brazilian states and the Federal District. The volume of vaccines, in fact, is equivalent to more than 70% of the total doses shipped by the airline sector within the country since 2020.
In short, the Solidarity Plane is connected with the Shared Value front of the LATAM group, to make all of the company's logistical experience and connectivity available to South America for the free transport of people, animals and cargo in health emergencies, environment and disasters. Currently, Avião Solidário also has partnerships with different institutions in Brazil, such as Amigos do Bem, Associação Caatinga, Instituto Rodrigo Mendes, Amazone-se and SOS Mata Atlântica.
