For this edition, the program has some changes, such as the evaluation period, which will now be biennial (2024/2025); and the creation of three independent axes: social engagement of airports (Society), management of energy consumption, water resources and waste (Inputs) and management of noise emissions (Externalities).

Another new feature is the way participants are classified, which now considers the complexity and evolution of environmental initiatives implemented in ascending order of Diagnosis, Optimization, Reduction and Restoration. To be classified at a given level, the airport must comply with all criteria associated with it and the previous levels. At the same time, each criterion has an individual score, which will allow airports to achieve the highest result in the categories of each axis, regardless of the level achieved. The best results will be recognized at an awards event held by ANAC.

The new Sustainable Airports Program also includes the inclusion of program certification Airport Carbon Accreditation (ACA), from the Airports Council International for Latin America (ACI-LAC), in the evaluations. Airports that have ACA certification will automatically meet similar criteria in the notice. The measure is part of the partnership between Anac and ACI-LAC, which provides for the exchange of knowledge for the sustainable development of the civil aviation sector.

The notice was published at the end of January, with changes that aim to encourage best sustainability practices, in addition to rewarding sustainable initiatives already implemented in the country. The changes are the result of the Agency's assessments with airport operators, who presented suggestions for improvements to the program.

For more information, the full notice and the results of previous awards are available at Sustainable Airports Program page.
