United Airlines announced Monday (31) that it has received approval from the Federal Aviation istration (FAA) for its first Starlink-equipped aircraft. The approved aircraft is the Embraer 175, and the company expects its first commercial flight to take place in May.
The airline plans to add the high-speed Wi-Fi technology to about 40 regional jets per month and expects to complete installation on 300 regional planes by the end of the year. United will work with Starlink to obtain STC approval from the FAA to install the equipment on more than 16 aircraft models operated by the group.
Starlink WiFi service will be free for MileagePlus program .
United has signed a deal with Starlink to provide in-flight internet services across its fleet of more than 1.000 aircraft over the next few years.
