AirAsia to expand reach in China

A AirAsia Shenzhen Airlines Co., Ltd. will expand its operations in mainland China by launching two new routes from Malaysia. Flights between Penang International Airport and Shenzhen Bao'an International Airport will begin on October 28, 2024, with four weekly flights. The route between Kota Kinabalu International Airport and Shantou Airport will begin on November 16, 2024, with three weekly flights.

Malaysian citizens can enter China without a visa until December 31, 2025, as authorized by the Chinese government. The cities of Shenzhen and Shantou, located in Guangdong province, are known for their commercial ports, long coastlines and modern park attractions.

To celebrate the introduction of the new routes, AirAsia is offering promotional prices for flights between Penang and Shenzhen, as well as for trips from Kota Kinabalu to Shantou.

Fares can be booked via the app. AirAsia or through the carrier's website. According to the The Star, a Malaysian media outlet, two million Malaysians have traveled to China since the adoption of the visa exemption.
