Each year, LATAM has been hiring more women in Brazil for the positions of commander and co-pilot of its aircraft. This is what the survey of the airline about its 2023 selection processes. In the last year alone, LATAM hired 44% of the total number of women in these positions in its team. The number represents 12% of the total number of pilots, including both sexes, hired in 2023 by the company.
“LATAM is increasingly committed to creating a fair and inclusive work environment. In this context, we are expanding the presence of minority groups in our workforce in Brazil with progress year after year. The fact that we have almost doubled our number of female pilots in the company in the last year and reached the unprecedented target of 5% of hiring people with disabilities shows us that we are moving forward on this path”, comments Jefferson Cestari, director of Human Resources at LATAM Brasil.
In of its total workforce, LATAM hired more than 3 professionals in Brazil in 2023. The three areas that received the most new employees were Airports, Cabin Crew (stewardesses) and Maintenance.
Company commitment
The commitment of companhia the increased representation of minority groups in the qualified labor market is also demonstrated in the hiring of 48% of its workforce of people with disabilities (PwD) in the last two years. LATAM ended 2023 becoming the first airline in the country to have 5% PwD in its workforce.
Furthermore, the company ended the year with 18% black representation in the group of cabin crew, a number 4% higher than in 2022.
In this sense, another milestone reached in 2023 by LATAM was the total of 42 trans people hired in Brazil. The areas with the greatest trans representation in the company are Airports, Cabin Crew (attendants) and cargo.
Therefore, to become more diverse and inclusive, LATAM has been working on several fronts, such as training to raise awareness among all employees on the topic of diversity, implementing innovative selection processes and, finally, defining its Diversity and Inclusion. They are: ensuring equality of opportunities and more balance in the representation of women; have representation of people with disabilities; expand heterogeneity in professional areas to increase multiculturalism and create more spaces for greater social, ethnic, race/color, educational, age, gender diversity, etc.; and develop a more global culture, strengthened by the differences between employees of the LATAM group.
LATAM’S PROSPECTS IN BRAZIL IN 2024
As a result, in December 2023, LATAM reached the milestone of 8 new aircraft received in Brazil in the space of one month. The feat reinforces the company's commitment to expanding Brazilians' access to aviation. Likewise, in 2023, 15 of the 17 new aircraft received directly from the factory by the LATAM group were directed to its Brazilian operation, which this year is expected to grow by 7% to 9%. For 2024, in fact, LATAM has already announced 4 measures to universalize aviation in Brazil, including the addition of 10 thousand daily seats to its operations in the country.
