The newest Low Cost airline in Colombia started its activities yesterday (18/02). Ultra Air is based at José María Córdova International Airport (MDE), in Medellín, as well as Bogotá, and uses Airbus A320 aircraft.
The airline made just two first guest flights, taking off and landing in Medellín, Colombia. Flights with paid tickets will start on February 23, next Tuesday.

Five planes are being used for the start of Ultra Air's operations. With a hub in Medellín and Bogotá, the company wants to start operations with flights to Cali, Cartagena, Pereira, Santa Marta and San Andrés. There will also be a flight connecting Bogotá and Medellín.
Former Interjet CEO William Shaw is in charge of the new company. The company's goal is to have a 25% share in the competitive Colombian aviation market.
“Ultra Air is here to fly with you and for you. We are here to boost the market, create jobs, democratize commercial air transport and add more value to the tourism value chain. Ultra Air expects to have up to 2,5 million engers in its first year of operations.”, said William Shaw.
Shaw said that the company is selling airline tickets starting at US$ 27 (US dollars), and has already sold 65 tickets. With the debut promotion “2×1” it is possible to buy two airline tickets for the price of just one.
Despite being a country considerably smaller than Brazil, Colombia ed 30,5 million engers in 2021. Two years earlier, in 2019, the movement was almost 39 million engers, while Brazil ed 119 million.
