During the press conference held on the first day of the ALTA Aviation Industry Leaders Forum in Cancún this past Sunday (22), Boeing says it did not expect such demand for the 737 MAX after the problems with the model and also after the pandemic.
Landon Loomis, President of Boeing for Latin America and the Caribbean, said that the manufacturer was surprised by the demand for the medium jet, highlighting that today there are more than 1.100 planes of this type carrying more than 500 engers a day around the world.
“It's impressive, the plane's performance was better than we could have expected. The world and the sector are observing these results”, said Loomis during ALTA AGM 2023 in Cancun. He also highlighted the choice of the new low-cost airline, Arajet, for choosing the 737 MAX to start its operations.

“Due to the characteristics (that the aircraft offers in of connectivity and range) they saw that the 737 MAX was the best choice, it is a great option for any airline operating in this region”, completed.
Loomis also said that the biggest problem in Latin America is the lack of internal connectivity, and that the 737 MAX is a great ally, especially for low-cost companies, which are responsible for 77% of the growth in enger flow in the region.
“These are the opportunities we are seeing, the dynamism not only in Latin America but in other markets where there are new low-cost companies entering the market. These new companies are not 'stealing' the market, they are increasing the market”, said Boeing's president for the region during the ALTA Leaders Forum 2023.
