The case involving the FAB soldier detained in Spain transporting drugs happened this week and is having great repercussions. Due to this, both President Bolsonaro and vice-president Mourão have already spoken about it and yesterday the Minister of Defense, Fernando Azevedo, accompanied by the Air Force Commander, Brigadier Antônio Carlos Moretti Bermudez, made a statement to the press about it.
Once this soldier's guilt is proven, know that this is a deviation from the most cherished ethical and moral values that we practice in the Brazilian Armed Forces.

A Military Police Inquiry was set up by the Air Force Command to investigate details of the case.
We will act with full transparency. Everything that can be disclosed, that does not compromise the course of the investigations, will be disclosed.
The military will be judged without condescension by the Justice of Spain and also by the Brazilian Justice, as determined by the laws of both countries.
I emphasize that we will not tolerate criminals among us! In this case, there was a breach of trust.

On the occasion, the spokesman for the Brazilian Air Force, Major Daniel Oliveira, informed journalists that, periodically, the Air Force command will issue informative bulletins regarding the case. He read the first bulletin, which is available on the Air Force website: www.fab.mil.br.
“The Air Force Command informs that the military officer detained at Seville airport, Spain, this Tuesday (25), for alleged involvement in the transport of narcotics in a military aircraft is an Air Force Sergeant and works as a flight attendant on an aircraft. military VC-2.
Upon landing at Seville airport, the soldier carried out the customs and immigration process, and was apprehended by the Spanish Civil Guard.
The Sergeant left Brazil on a mission, only part of the crew that would remain in Seville. Thus, the military in question would not, at any time, be part of the crew of the presidential aircraft, since the return of the aircraft that transports the President of the Republic will not through Seville, but through Seattle, United States.
The Sergeant ed the FAB in February 2000, ed the Special Transport Group (GTE) in March 2010 and has been a member of the VC-2 crew since March 2016.
The Special Transport Group is an Air Force unit, whose crew undergo a selection process in which all records, experience, performance concepts and military conduct throughout their career are considered.
Information regarding the soldier and the circumstances of the incident are the subject of investigation and, as provided for in article 16 of the Code of Military Criminal Procedure (PM), which governs the Military Criminal Inquiry (IPM), are confidential.
The IPM has already been established within the scope of the Air Force Command, which is an istrative procedure aimed at investigating facts that may constitute military crimes, in accordance with the provisions of article 9 of the Military Penal Code. The purpose of the Inquiry is to gather the elements that will serve as a basis for the promotion of possible criminal action by the Military Public Ministry. The term of the IPM is 40 days, extendable for 20 days. There is no impediment in the military legislation for the investigation of a military crime, even when the military is in foreign territory.
After completion of the IPM, there will be a referral to the Military Public Ministry, which may offer criminal action. If denounced, the military will be prosecuted and may be convicted and receive an accessory penalty of exclusion from the Force. The punishments are those foreseen in the form of the law.
The FAB routinely adopts measures aimed at the safety of air operations, boarding and disembarking of aircraft.
Every flight with the President of the Republic carried out at the ALA 1 Authorities Station is ed by X-ray equipment, with all suitcases and hand luggage effectively checked, including that of the crew of that aircraft. Baggage verification procedures by X-ray are carried out by GSI-PR.
The security measures that involved the incident on the presidential mission aircraft, which took off from Brasília on the night of June 24th, are being investigated by the instituted IPM. In this specific case, as it was a transfer flight and not the President's transport, the GSI did not interfere with boarding security procedures.
Measures to prevent this type of offense are adopted regularly. In view of what happened, these measures will be reinforced. A working group has already been set up with technicians from sectors directly related to air and security activity, in order to possible vulnerabilities and propose measures that increase the security procedures already in place for boarding and disembarking aircraft.
The Consulate General of Brazil in Madrid reported that it had already maintained telephone with the accused and his family in Brazil, and appointed a vice-consul to maintain with the police and judicial authorities and visit the detained military officer, in order to accompany his situation. A defense lawyer has already been appointed by the Spanish State.
The Air Force Command reiterates that it repudiates misconduct of this nature, which does not represent the values, dedication and work of men and women in favor of fulfilling the mission of “MAINTAINING THE SOVEREIGNTY OF THE AIRSPACE AND INTEGRATING THE NATIONAL TERRITORY, WITH VIEWS TO THE DEFENSE OF THE HOMELAND”.
