Project allows FAB planes to transport bodies of low-income Brazilians

Complementary Bill 204/24 authorizes the use of Brazilian Air Force (FAB) aircraft to transport the bodies of low-income Brazilians and their companions. The Chamber of Deputies is analyzing the proposal, which changes the law on the organization and use of the Armed Forces.

Under the project, the Air Force will be able to respond to a request from a relative who needs to transfer a deceased family member, provided that:

  • the interested party must in a program for this purpose to be created by the Air Force Command;
  • the destination is the city of residence of the interested party;
  • the interested party proves the lack of resources by means of a document attesting to his/her remuneration;
  • there is a seat available on the plane;
  • the priority of use of the aircraft established by the Air Force is observed;
  • transportation does not interfere with the main work of the Air Force; and
  • the interested party pays for the transportation of the body to the plane.

National Air Mail

The author of the project, deputy Daiana Santos (PCdoB-RS), states that transportation can be done by aircraft from the National Air Mail (CAN), which already serves civilians in emergency situations.

In addition to enger transport, CAN also carries out logistical transport, humanitarian , search and rescue and aeromedical evacuation missions.

Next stages

The proposal will be analyzed by the Foreign Affairs and National Defense committees; Finance and Taxation committee; and Constitution and Justice and Citizenship committee. It will then go to the plenary.

To become law, the text needs to be approved by the Chamber of Deputies and the Senate.
